The cost of a ferry flight depends on multiple factors, primarily the aircraft’s capabilities and the length of the trip. A Cessna 150 flying from the East Coast to the West Coast will take significantly longer than a Beechcraft Bonanza.

To ensure safety and minimize pilot fatigue, flights are typically planned in 4-hour legs with 30-40 minute rest periods between each. Pilots generally limit total daily flight time to 8-10 hours to maintain focus and operate safely.

How Daily Pilot Fee Calculation Works

Pilot fee pricing is based on estimated flight time, using a straight-line route or necessary detours around natural obstacles (e.g., mountains or open water). Flight time is determined at 75% cruise power under zero wind conditions.

The pilot fee is $350 per day for single-engine piston aircraft and $500 per day for light multi-engine piston aircraft. A “day” is defined as every 8 hours of flight time. Any flight exceeding 8 hours is billed as an additional full day.

• 9-hour trip → 2 days ($700)

• 16.1-hour trip → 3 days ($1,050)

  • Fuel stops will extend total duration, making a 16.1-hour trip significantly longer. However, if strong tailwinds reduce flight time or a trip can be completed more efficiently, a lower price may be negotiated within reason.

• 17-hour trip → 3 days ($1,050)
